A turn-based beacon war. The Gloom shows where it will strike next. Kindle one beacon, march once, and light every hollow before the nights run out.
Beacons and roads
The march is a web of beacons joined by roads. Your hearth burns at the bottom of the map; the Gloom's hollows wait at the top. Every beacon shows how much fire it holds. Towns add one ember to your income each night, hollows and your hearth add two, and towers add nothing but stand behind thick walls.

One night, two choices
Each night opens with the Gloom's move on the board: a violet arrow shows where it will march, and a red ring marks the beacon it is about to take. Then it is your turn.
- Kindle. All of your embers land on one beacon of your choice. Spread thin, you are weak everywhere; pile up, and you leave the rest exposed.
- March. Send fire from one beacon along one road, or hold. All keeps one behind; Half keeps half at home. Fire that beats a beacon's walls and garrison takes it.

Only after your march does the Gloom's declared march land, with whatever is left at its source. Reinforce the target, strike the source first, or slip past while its fire is away.
Five marches
Light every hollow before the nights run out, and never let your hearth go dark. The first march teaches the turn. Then come two roads, an old tower in the middle of the map, twin hollows that must both fall, and a long night against a Gloom that burns hotter than you.

Every march can be won, and none forgives an empty hearth. Undo takes back a step whenever a plan goes wrong.
